More About FIT’s Program

FIT’s Self-Sufficiency Empowerment Program is offered through three divisions

  1. The Workforce Development Project (WDP) provides funding for vocational training to clients who do not have the technical skills or work experience to qualify for a career that pays a sufficient wage to create financial stability. In the WDP, clients are matched with a FIT Case Manager who will remain with them throughout their program. The Case Manager performs in-depth assessments and vocational testing with each client whereby individual issues/barriers to be addressed are identified. This analysis guides the client to an appropriate career choice. The client then receives guidance and mentoring and obtains the vocational skills needed to compete in today's complex and ever-evolving workforce.

  2. The Employment Project (EP) propels people into the careers for which they are qualified, but due to specific personal barriers, cannot secure and retain on their own. We provide career search skills and assistance, teach workplace readiness skills support, and provide support services (workforce prerequisites such as a uniform, etc.) necessary to place people into work.

  3. The Standards of Excellence Piloted in March 2009, FIT clients are now instructed in seven learning modules that teach the "soft skills" necessary to procure and maintain employment and include: financial literacy, personal budgeting, employment readiness, computer skills, keyboarding, resume writing, interviewing/job search skills, and professionalism.
